ready, get set...

The list of textbooks was sent through our egroups yester-yesterday, giving the go signal for me and my cousin to make a quick trip to the in-house (in-school?) bookstore. We were informed of the ungodly price tags beforehand, probably to give us the chance to gasp out "huwaaaaaat?" in front of our computers instead of at the store. Anyway, I am currently the proud owner of nice hardbound books bearing my name in gold letters. I just hope they still have purpose and meaning next year.

The intial readings and cases for the "Introduction to Law" class we received earlier today. Intro to Law is this 1-unit, only-one-week-long, pass-or-fail-won't-affect-your-grade subject all the freshies have to take together before the rest of the other "real-er" and QPI-relevant subjects. The title of the course almost speaks for itself, but I have been cautioned that its other purpose is to dehorn fresh college graduates and humble the cockier ones. Sisindakin kami, to put it bluntly. My friend, whom we shall call Whattakatch, told me to prepare myself for getting humiliated by the professor in front of the entire batch. She also told me not to worry about it - the exam at the end of the 5 nights (which would fall on a Sunday, dammit) is the real deal anyway.

The prof for the Intro to Law class will be the same person who interviewed me, so no matter what he does to me during the course, I will still love him nonetheless. I thought I had the crappiest interview in my entire life, but he let me through anyway. Kaya mahal ko na siya forever. harharhar

one toe in the water - good job!

Some Noteworthy bits regarding the OrSem:

1. I'm gonna be classmates with my straight cousin. Good news to us - we'll be able to support each other. Bad news to me - I ought to be extra careful with what I do and say around him. For wiz teykla purposes.

2. Tons of familiar faces, mostly former fellow Ateneans. Except that I am now a lower-classman to those I've been a senior to before. Gulong ng Palad ba ito?

3. Turns out that a Malate classmate / former bad date of a friend of mine is gonna be my batchmate. I thought he looked familiar - I knew that face from Bed. It wouldn't come as a surprise to me if one day he asks me out of the blue: "When was the last time you've been to Bed?" as a conversation opener. But I ought to be happy that we're not classmates - my friend told me he was a jerk.

4. Out of the estimated 125 men in our batch, only 1 guy fell within my odd standards. I'm not even sure that he's gay, I'm not certain that he's available either. And even if he were both, there's no guarantee he'll like me back. And he's gonna be in the evening classes anyway (I'm in the afternoon bunch).

What I'm trying to say is: I won't get distracted anytime soon.

Foreword?

Until a few weeks ago, I thought I was doing a fantastic job at being adamant about refusing to create a blog. Private thoughts, I believed, ought to be private and not for the rest of the online world to see. Yet here I am - hi, hello, I'm blogging.

What brought this about is that law school starts soon, and I figured that if am to get through that (with flying colors? - libre lang naman mangarap), I will have to cut down on time spent with my current friends. I think it's general knowledge that [No more "making kwento" = disappearing from your friends' lives]. I don't want that, do I?

Hence this blog. If someone asks me how I've been doing, what I am doing, if I would like to meet up for coffee to catch up, at least now, I can answer them back with a URL addy. Everything they need should be here. I was toying with the idea of emailing my friends regular newsletters, but I don't wanna be considered spam mail. haha.

School begins tomorrow and heck, I think I'm excited. Yeah sure, maybe after the first week I'd wanna shoot myself, but let me just savor this mood while I still can. I probably won't be able to update this as often as I intend to, but I'll make an effort.

Oh good, it took me an hour to write this entry. Good luck to me.
